Job Description

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado, is the nation's primary laboratory for research and development of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. The successful candidate will:

  • Work hand in hand with project Principal Investigators to develop and execute team-based project plans.

  • Support a subset of 3-5 projects within the Buildings Program to track project financial performance, address scheduling and staffing needs, and monitor task and deliverable progress.

  • Develop vendor requests for proposals and track subsequent deliverables and financial performance for any awarded subcontracts.

  • Work in an interdisciplinary environment with diverse groups of people.

  • Work with the NREL Building Program Operations Team to identify project risks and solutions.

  • Communicate well within small team structures, but who are also comfortable presenting to larger groups.

  • Work closely with engineers, architects, policy makers, community program implementers, and building operators to help ensure the timely and on-budget delivery of project milestones and deliverables.

An ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience developing vendor requests for proposals and tracking subsequent deliverables and financial performance for any awarded subcontracts.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with all aspects of project financial planning (from project development through execution/tracking to closeout).

  • Experience developing Power BI dashboards.

  • Experience working with DOE and/or other federal agencies.

  • Written/contributed-to successful proposals in response to funding opportunity announcements.

  • Exceptional writing, interpersonal, and communication skills.

About the Commercial Building Controls and Analytics Group (CBCAG): CBCAG staff use engineering, applied science, and software engineering expertise to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions in the U.S. commercial building stock. We are expanding the frontier of scientific knowledge that enables optimized energy use, generation, and storage in the built environment at multiple scales with equitable outcomes designed into our research. Our research significantly enhances the resiliency, efficiency, and affordability of energy systems across the United States and the world.

Basic Qualifications

Relevant Master's Degree or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Bachelor's Degree and 2 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Complete understanding and application of project management principles, concepts, practices and standards. Full knowledge of technical field and related disciplines. Very good interpersonal, conflict resolution, teaming and communication skills.

Additional Required Qualifications

  • Experience developing vendor requests for proposals and tracking subsequent deliverables and financial performance for any awarded subcontracts.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with all aspects of project financial planning (from project development through execution/tracking to closeout).

  • Demonstrated ability to administer and curate project repositories, such as SharePoint

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)

Job Profile: Project Manager II / Annual Salary Range: $73,200 - $120,800

NREL takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employee’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
