Job Description


The selected candidate must have direct experience and proven abilities in creating and managing complex communications programs, in addition to writing and technical editing. The candidate must show proficiency in strategic communications planning and execution, communications project management, developing and managing annual operating plans, project agreements, budgets, communication standards, and the ability to maintain good working relationships with clients and team members.

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to collaborate with cross-disciplinary web, print, and multimedia project teams to create websites, web applications and tools, and print and multimedia products, as well as with NREL technical team members across multiple departments. The candidate must have advanced understanding and application of communications project management principles, concepts, practices, and standards, along with knowledge of web enterprise management and print, video, and social media communication standards and disciplines. The candidate must be willing to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects and deadlines.

In addition, the selected candidate must have:

· Nimbleness needed to multitask in a fast-paced communications agency setting.

· Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, teaming, and communication skills.

· Excellent client and team management skills as well as demonstrated strategic approaches.

· Experience translating complex, technical subject matter for general audiences.

· Understanding of the power of narrative and storytelling through all channels.

· Excellent writing and editing skills.


Basic Qualifications

Relevant Bachelor's Degree and 5 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Master's Degree and 3 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant PhD or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant JD or equivalent relevant education/experience.


Additional Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, or marketing.

· Experience with existing NREL and DOE programs.

· Experience managing budgets of up to $1 million per year.

· Experience with emerging digital communications, marketing concepts, public relations, or advertising agency setting, social media, technologies, and practices is preferred.

· Familiarity with renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies, and/or other technical subject matter.

· General knowledge and application of technical standards, principles, theories and techniques.

· Frequent application of industry concepts and principles.

· General knowledge of laws, regulations, principles, procedures and practices related to specific field.

· Skilled in problem solving, written and verbal communication. Ability to use various computer software programs.
