NREL Content Editor in Golden, Colorado
CO - Golden
Hours Per Week
NREL’s Communications & Public Affairs Office is seeking an experienced Content Editor to organize the editorial activity that communicates the lab’s science, people, and mission to the world in a way that inspires, engages, and informs.
The right candidate will be an editor first and foremost--proofreading, restructuring, and editing content submitted by a diverse team of writers representing different areas of research within the lab. This involves a quality-first approach—from granular copyediting of grammar, spelling, and style... to big-picture consistency of message and content strategy across a variety of subjects and formats.
The job requires a deft, interpersonal communicator with the demeanor needed to navigate multiple content silos and reporting structures (with sometimes conflicting needs), and the confidence to provide constructive feedback and maintain content integrity.
It requires an editor focused on shaping content for clarity and impact, who knows when and how to flip stories back to writers for revision and when to jump in and make hands on edits directly. And it means maintaining strict editorial governance to ensure all content is not only error free, but also meets the lab’s voice, style, tone, and Messaging strategy.
The ideal candidate will be a digitally savvy strategist who understands the role of branded content in today’s online environment. We’re looking for someone who can use SEO concepts to optimize content for reader engagement, as well as monitor performance to measure results against goals, and an ability to analyze readership data to inform both strategy and tactics.
