Job Description

NREL’s Cell and Module Performance (CMP) group is internationally recognized for providing the highest level of accredited, traceable calibrations for any and all types of photovoltaic (PV) cells and modules. We are constantly pushing the boundaries of PV measurement science. The successful candidate will work with senior CMP scientists and engineers to realize new measurement techniques and hardware. After initial training and orientation on I-V and QE test beds the candidate will focus on advancing the state of the art in PV measurements through design, construction, interfacing, and programming of new hardware, electronics, and software.

The candidate must have a strong track record of hands on design, construction, and programming of electrical instrumentation. The candidate should have a high level of skill and experience in LabView programming for data acquisition and hardware control. The candidate should be highly motivated, self-starting, eager to learn new skills, and comfortable working alone or as part of a project team.


Basic Qualifications

Master's Degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering or related field.

Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering or related field and 2 or more years of experience in the PV field .


Additional Qualifications

  • Demonstrated track record programming for instrument control and data acquisition.

  • Good understanding of current vs. voltage instrumentation.

  • Strong analytical skills, detail oriented, strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Very good writing, interpersonal, and communication skills are essential.

  • Creative, good judgment, clear sense of purpose and personal responsibility

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate-level understanding of semiconductor device physics.

  • Relevant experience in PV device performance measurements.

  • Good understanding of probability, statistics, and uncertainty analysis, and demonstrated ability to apply these skills to real world device measurement situations.

  • Experience programming with Python and/or LabView.
