NREL’s Intelligent Campus is a diverse group of interdisciplinary experts united in the goal of enabling collaboration amongst researchers and operators using high quality data to manage risk and inform decision making. The Intelligent Campus is also a strategic research instrument that utilizes NREL’s resources, its energy informatics, and scientific discoveries to steward facility assets with the goal of making NREL’s operations resilient, secure, efficient and effective.
The Intelligent Campus data platform provides standardized organization and access to high quality data related to the operation of NREL’s campuses. Data sources include building automation systems, electric vehicle charging stations, instrumentation measuring on-site weather conditions, and forecasted data generated using a variety of modeling techniques.
The successful candidate will work with NREL’s state-of-the-art data collection systems and analytics software. Responsibilities may include
Programming integration with data sources such as REST APIs, databases, or Apache Kafka.
Building Docker containers to run the integration code.
Deploying Docker containers and troubleshooting deployed code.
Tuning and deploying machine learning algorithms for on campus uses such as load forecasting and automated fault detection.
Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a degree granting program, or graduated in the past 12 months from an accredited institution. Internship period cannot exceed 12 months past graduation. Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Please Note: You will need to upload unofficial transcripts and a letter of recommendation as part of the application process.
Computer programming experience pertaining to building or renewable energy systems
Demonstrable experience utilizing version control experience software
Strong communication skills
Proven experience working in a group or collaborative environment.
