There is a post-undergraduate position available in the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's (NREL) National Bioenergy Center, in Golden, Colorado. NREL is the nation's primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.
NREL’s National Bioenergy Center is conducting research to improve biomass conversion to fuels and chemicals, particularly on chemical separations of bioproducts from fermentation broth. The candidate will assist in the development and evaluation of processes for the production of high value products from bio-derived chemicals. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate who desires to obtain relevant laboratory experience in preparation for graduate school or a career in the biofuels or biochemical industries.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, & Attributes
Ability to conduct laboratory experiments,with minimal supervision and with the utmost regard to safety is required. Familiarity with general separations techniques, TLC, flash chromatography, distillation, liquid-liquid extraction, analytical methods (GC and HPLC) and chemical synthesis techniques is desirable, but not required.
Required Education, Experience, and Skills
Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a degree granting program, or graduated in the past 12 months from an accredited institution. Internship period cannot exceed 12 months past graduation. Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Please Note: Before interview selection, you will need to provide unofficial transcripts to verify GPA and full time enrollment.
A recent graduate in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related discipline with a desire to work in a laboratory setting and gain experience in biofuels/biochemicals research.
