Job Description

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado, just outside Denver, is the nation’s primary laboratory for research and development of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. The National Bioenergy Center at NREL has an opening for a full time Postdoctoral Researcher. The initial appointment is for one year, with possible renewal up to three years.

The successful candidate will:

  • Use metabolic engineering to introduce and optimize pathways for the production of chemicals in a non-model, but genetically amendable, bacterium from lignocellulosic feedstocks.

  • Further engineer and/or evolve this strain to tolerate toxic feedstocks and/or products.

  • Have demonstrated experience in synthetic biology and bacterial cultivation and evaluation.

  • Have strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Work with the highest attention to safety

  • Be able to work independently.

Basic Qualifications

Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years in Biology, Chemistry or related field.

Additional Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. graduate in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or a related field

  • Experience working with non-model microbes

  • Analytical chemistry experience (LC, GC)

  • Experience with bioreactor cultivation or bioprocess development
