Postdoc (Fixed Term)
Hours Per Week
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado is the nation’s primary laboratory for research and development of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. A postdoctoral researcher position is available in NREL’s Chemistry and Nanoscience Center to explore materials chemistry relevant to electrochemical energy storage devices. The candidate will investigate the mechanical and electrochemical properties of electrode materials, exploring fundamental material properties in electrochemical devices.
Key knowledge includes the techniques and methodologies of electrochemical devices, experimental designs and methods for mechanical properties measurements, processing and physical analysis of materials. It is expected that this experience will be leveraged to develop synthesis methods for solid-state electrolytes and cathode materials. Successful applicants will demonstrate the ability to process and utilize these materials, and to examine the interactions of these materials under cell environments (i.e., battery fabrication, testing and cycling measurement analysis). Additionally, these experiments should be designed to provide an understanding of the mechanisms of operation and possible methods for improvements of advanced electrochemical cells, including new materials and synthesis thereof. This work is synergistic with the larger team effort focused on providing an understanding of the mechanisms of operation and possible methods for improvements of advanced electrochemical cells, including advanced batteries.
Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.
Ph.D. in chemistry, materials science & engineering, mechanical engineering, or electrochemistry. Record of publications/presentations in areas related to energy storage projects.
Qualified candidates must demonstrate considerable skill in interpreting and assessing the experimental results of their own work and that of others. Finally, excellent interpersonal as well as oral and written communication skills are essential for success at NREL.
Please note that in order to be considered an applicant for any position at NREL you must submit an application form for each position for which you believe you are qualified. Applications are not kept on file for future positions. Please include a cover letter and resume with each position application.
