Job Description

NREL’s strategic HR business partners function as consultants, advisors and change agents. As Senior Strategic HR Business Partner, you will deliver, broker, or support appropriate products and services aligned to both NREL’s and the directorate’s people strategies, ensuring high impact HR representation. You will help business leaders understand and address the people implications of business decisions. You will ensure that client strategies are supported with the HR programs needed to provide NREL with competitive advantage. With the organization knowledge you gain, you will help shape NREL’s people strategy.

  • Develop collaborative relationships to create opportunities to positively impact business outcomes

  • Work credibly with clients to support organizational strategies

  • Consult with clients to identify issues and reveal root causes

  • Analyze data to create insights to help guide decisions

  • Create solutions that drive impact and change

  • Sustain solutions by evaluating impact and improving solutions

  • Provide executives, managers, and employees with coaching and advice

  • In matters of behavior or conduct, lead fact finding and root cause analysis, ensuring effective resolution

  • Participate/co-facilitate management orientation and development programs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a Federal Contractor environment

  • Experience working in organization development or industrial/organization psychology

  • Certification in mediation or conflict resolution

  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential


Basic Qualifications

Education/Experience option one:

A bachelor’s degree in human resources related field such as IO/psychology, organizational development, human resources or related

Minimum combined nine years of experience in human resources employee relations consulting, and/or organization development

Education/Experience option two:

A master’s degree in human resources related field (listed above)

Minimum combined seven years of experience in human resources, employee relations consulting, and/or organization development

Education/Experience option three:

A doctoral degree in Human resources related field (listed above)

Minimum combined four years of experience in human resources employee relations consulting, and/or organization development


Additional Qualifications

Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state employment laws.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of nine years' experience resolving complex employee relations issues.

  • Certification in conflict resolution and/or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential or ability to obtain certification within two years of employment.

  • Experience working with government contractor regulations.
