Job Description

The Subcontract Administrator plays a critical role for NREL and the OCFO. The Subcontract Administrator directs and oversees the subcontracts and purchases necessary to fulfill the mission of the lab through their life-cycle. The Subcontract Administrator serves as the liaison between the NREL ‘Customer’ (i.e. the end user of the good/service), NREL Legal, NREL Finance, offerer and subcontractors. They serve as the main facilitator and negotiators for acquisitions, providing recommendations, record keeping, contract monitoring, change management and more.

Subcontract Administrator III professional in this capacity will function as more of a Customer Relationship Manager and Project Driver on a daily basis. While some procurement will be completed by this role, this Subcontract Administrator will work closely with the OCFO Business Manager to work with the staff within a specific directorate. This position will work with staff to strategize long-term and long-lead procurement, track the progress of identified strategic acquisitions and report to the SPC Team Manager in Acquisition Services, the OFCO Business Manager as well as directorate Group Managers, Center Directors and Associate Lab Directors as required. This position requires a high degree of comfort with ambiguity, extremely strong professionalism, high degree of confidence in oral and written communication. This position will be the ‘face’ of Acquisition Services to a research directorate within the laboratory.

Basic Qualifications

Relevant Bachelor's Degree in finance, business, accounting or related and 5 years or more experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.

Or, relevant Master's Degree in finance, business, accounting or related and 3 years or more experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.

  • Complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the field.

  • General knowledge of other related disciplines.

  • Considerable knowledge of laws, regulations, principles, procedures and practices related to specific field.

  • Strong leadership, project management and problem solving skills.
