Job Summary

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is a leader in the U.S. Department of Energy’s effort to secure an energy future that is both environmentally and economically sustainable. The qualified candidate will develop, test, and deploy technical solutions for endpoint hardware and software across the enterprise while ensuring compatibility with existing solutions. The incoming hire will create and manage a proactive client security model dealing with baseline configurations, vulnerability management, and software lifecycle management. This hire will be responsible to centrally manage endpoint security through anti-virus administration, as well as Group Policy administration, operating system security patching, and 3rd party software patching. The ideal candidate will create and maintain OS images for Windows and Macintosh systems and develop and maintain Group Policy settings for client systems. The hire will also provide in-depth top tier technical support for client hardware and software to end users and other support staff. Our ideal candidate will be exceptionally proficient working independently and as part of a team environment.

Job Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Patch Windows and Mac client systems with operating system, security, and 3rd party patches to ensure vulnerability management requirements are met.

  • Test, package and deploy software and scripts across Windows and Mac environment.

  • Develop and manage a proactive client security model that maintains security baselines, vulnerability management, and software lifecycle for client systems.

  • Assist with security baselines using Group Policy, scripts and OS configurations. Follow CIS or vendor approved baselines where available and document exceptions to the baseline.

  • Maintain existing client Group Policy settings, updating as needed. Develop new Group Policy settings and configuration baselines for new OS versions and updates.

  • Assist with development of OS images for Windows and macOS.

  • Respond to applicable security bulletins. Provide reports of existing vulnerabilities and patch requested systems as needed.

  • Provide centralized endpoint anti-virus administration and management responsibilities for the anti-virus service.

  • Provide Tier 3 support to end user and support staff. Answer questions and solving problems related to hardware and software. Remotely administer client systems to apply configurations and assist users.

  • Assist with ITS and Enterprise projects as requested. Collaborate with other teams as needed to ensure successful completion of projects.

  • Develop documentation and training for support staff regarding standard software, hardware, and procedures.

  • Ability to pass background check required for DOE HSPD-12 badge.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Expert knowledge of client operating systems including Microsoft Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, macOS 10+, and iOS 10+ Software Packaging knowledge

  • Active Directory and Group Policy

  • Familiarity with security configuration baselines

  • OS Scripting for Mac and Windows

  • Anti-Virus Administration

  • Centralized client management and software deployment

  • Microsoft Office Pro plus, Microsoft Office365

  • Full disk encryption experience

  • Familiarity with ITIL Fundamental principles

Required Education, Experience, and Skills

Relevant Bachelor's Degree and 5 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Master's Degree and 3 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant PhD or equivalent relevant education/experience. Complete understanding and wide application of principles, concepts and techniques in specific field. General knowledge of related IS disciplines. Strong leadership and project management skills. Skilled in analytical techniques, practices and problem solving. Advanced programming, design and analysis abilities with various computer software programs and information systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bash, JavaScript, VB Script, PowerShell Scripting

  • Sophos Endpoint Security Administration

  • LANDesk/Ivanti centralized client management and software deployment

  • BitLocker, FileVault2, and Checkpoint full disk encryption

  • USGCB and CIS baseline familiarity

  • Software packaging with Wise Script, Install Shield, and Apple Package Maker
